MKU gets ToT for Driver Night Sight for T-90 Tanks from DRDO
DRDO has transferred the technology of Driver Night Sight for T-90 Tanks to MKU Limited, Kanpur, for manufacturing these for the Indian Army. DRDO developed uncooled thermal imagers based Driver Night Sight for tanks has a range of up to 150 meters with the field of view 45°x34° degree.
Driver’s night sight will assist the driver in tank
operations at dark pitch nights with no ambient light and will be replacing
existing image intensifier sights used in T-90 tanks. Tank driver should be
able to clearly view the area in front with adequate depth perception while
driving over undulating terrain with the help of a Driver Night Sight.
Night blindness of the Indian Army’s armoured formations was
a major issue till 2016 with only 50% having the capability to fight at night,
since then most of the T-72 and T-90 tanks have been equipped with Driver Night
Sight that was manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited, Vijaywada, and OFB
Dehradun, making MKU, the first Private sector company to receive Transfer of
Technology for the DRDO developed Driver Night Sight.

India can kiss goodbye to CAATSA Waiver, Need to boost
Domestic production
Until a few weeks back there were remote chances of President
Joe Biden’s administration is unlikely to sanction India under the Countering
America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act, CAATSA for procuring the Russian
S400 air defense systems, but recent military operations inside Ukrainian held
areas by the Russian forces means that waiver won’t be coming any time soon and
India needs to brace for CAATSA sanctions soon.
The $5.43 billion S400 ‘Triumf’ missile systems deal has been
in the spotlight but India has been cutting down on imports of US made weapons
and equipment already and instead, has decided to focus on the development of
the indigenous system and hope soon India to starts working to fix this import
obsession and starts buying local even if they are not among the best.
Pakistan finds main battle tanks and artillery guns from
China faulty
Pakistan which has long depended on western equipment for its
armed forces is facing quality and reliability issues with newly inducted
Chinese equipment, with a main battle tank failing post delivery tests and a
freshly procured heavy artillery gun facing multiple technical issues during
firing trials.
There have also been delays in supply of field artillery guns
by China and the production of main battle tanks have been temporarily halted
as investigations are on to determine the reason for the faults. In an attempt
to increase its artillery firepower, the Pakistani Army received at least eight
of the heavy 203mm towed guns from NORINCO that were tested at its ranges
earlier this month.
The guns faced several issues during firing trials, which
included faults in the rammer assembly and breech lock. Similarly, problems
have also been discovered in the VT 4 main battle tanks imported from China.
Hyderabad’s Midhani to supply full proof armoured vehicles
for Jammu and Kashmir police
These vehicles will not only ensure enhanced protection
against terror attacks, but also provide full proof security to VVIPs visiting
the state. The upgraded armoured vehicle will have all the latest international
security standards. A customised vehicle will first be shown to police ‘free of
cost’ after which more such armoured vehicles will be supplied. If a bullet is
fired with high energy and high type of penetration, the armoured vehicle has a
system to stop it, it will give cops the cutting edge in providing a protective
cover.
