CCTV surveillance system comes up along India Bangladesh
border
To further enhance security, the Border Security Force on
Tuesday has set up CCTV surveillance systems along the India Bangladesh border
in western Assam. CCTV surveillance system would monitor and control all
activities along the frontier and to further enhance round the clock vigilance
to control diverse border crimes.
BSF officials said that keeping in view of the vulnerability
of the border, and heightened activities of smugglers & anti-national
elements, the CCTV surveillance system would facilitate them to closely watch
the area during day and night to curb smuggling and border crimes. India and
Bangladesh share 4,096 kilometers of border, BSF has also installed various
other smart surveillance systems to further enhance vigil, especially in
smuggling, crime and infiltration prone areas.
148 IAF aircraft to demonstrate capabilities at Exercise Vayu
Shakti, Rafale to participate for first time
A total of 148 aircraft of the Indian Air Force will
demonstrate their capabilities at Exercise Vayu Shakti that will take place at
Pokharan range in Jaisalmer on March 7, on Tuesday. Rafale aircraft would
participate at this exercise for the first time and Prime Minister Narendra
Modi would be the chief guest.
The Indian Air Force conducts Exercise Vayu Shakti at
Pokharan range every three years to demonstrate its readiness to conduct full spectrum
operations. The last one took place in 2019. Jaguar fighter jet, Sukhoi-30
fighter jet, MiG-29 fighter jet, Tejas fighter aircraft and various others
would show their capabilities at Exercise Vayu Shakti 2022.
Capabilities of Aakash missile system and Spyder missile
system would also be shown at the exercise. Transport aircraft C-17 and C-130J
would also participate in the exercise.
Kilo and Kalvari class to get next generation Lithium Ion
batteries soon
In 2020, a Request for Information of the Indian Navy for the
development of a ‘high capacity’ lithium ion battery system to be retrofitted
on an existing in service submarine was initiated for Indian vendors to replace
older lead acid batteries for underwater propulsion.
Navy has now selected the vendor and after proof of concept
and the technology has now given go ahead for the development of compact
lithium ion battery pack that will be replacing older lead acid batteries that
will be first equipped on a Russian supplied Kilo class submarines for user
trials purposes and if found satisfactory will be later adapted on the other
Kilo class submarines and later also on the Kalvari class submarines.
Lithium ion batteries are lighter than lead acid batteries
and also generate less heat due to which underwater endurance of the submarines
will be three time more than the existing 48-72 hour endurance which are
provided by the lead acid batteries. Lithium ion batteries can also provide
large output on demand, allowing the boat to dash mush faster while dived and
don’t require regular maintenance or water top ups.
USAF and India’s New Space Research & Technologies Collaborating
on Air launched UAV
USAF Research lab Air Force Research Laboratory has yielded confirmation
of experimental wind tunnel results and concurred with wind tunnel modelling
predictions determined in India. Air Force Research Laboratory is working with
New Space Research & Technologies for Air launched drone for which it has
established CRADA with New Space Research and Technologies, in support of air launched
small unmanned aerial systems.
The recent results came from collaborative testing between Air
Force Research Laboratory and New Space Research using the Vertical Wind Tunnel
facility at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. The CRADA with New Space Research
supports the Defense Technology and Trade Initiative co-development strategy
with India to facilitate technical progress for both partners.
