IAF shows interests in procuring SPICE 250 ER with Artificial Intelligence
Israel based Rafael Advanced Defense Systems is offering the new variant dubbed SPICE 250 ER Extended Range that incorporates a miniature turbojet engine with an internal JP 8/10 fuel system, providing the weapon a range of at least 150 kilometer, while retaining the same mission planning system, aircraft interfaces, and aircrew operation.
SPICE
250 ER also now comes with autonomous electro optic Scene Matching Artificial
Intelligence Algorithms that use advanced AI and deep learning technologies to
specific target characteristics ahead of the strike. Each SPICE 250 ER can home
in on the predefined target, either autonomously or with a human in the loop,
aided by the ATR algorithm.
Rafael
is pitching SPICE 250 ER for IAF’s existing fighter fleet that includes Mirage 2000,
Sukhoi 30M K I, and LCA-Tejas.
DRDO
successfully test fires 4 Enhanced Range 122mm Caliber Rocket
DRDO successfully test-fired enhanced range versions of indigenously
developed 122mm Caliber Rocket from a Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher on June 25,
2021, at Integrated Test Range ITR, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.
Four enhanced range version of 122mm rockets were test fired with full
instrumentation and they met the complete mission objectives. These rockets
have been developed for Army applications and can destroy targets up to 45 kilometers.
All the flight articles were tracked by Range instruments, including
Telemetry, Radar and Electro Optical Tracking System deployed by ITR and Proof &
Experimental Establishment. This enhanced rocket system would replace the existing 122mm
Grad rockets.
Fake Report of Nirbhay Test
Reports of India test firing its long range subsonic Nirbhay cruise missile
turn out to be false news after Indian Defence News was informed that no such
developmental trial of the missile had taken place from reliable sources in
DRDO.
The trial of the Nirbhay missile test with the indigenous STFE engine is
still under preparation and might take place soon, once cleared by the team
that is working on the assembly of the missile.
DRDO and the Ministry of Defence both had maintained silence and had not
released any official Press Release like they usually do after missile tests,
nor it was widely reported in national media but was widely reported in the
Indian defence community.
Does
India Need Theatre Command Concept?
It has been announced that the first two theatre commands to be
formed will be air defence and maritime theatre commands by 2022.
The concept is derived from the US Armed forces, which divides its
entire defence forces in theatre commands covering the globe like US Pacific
Command.
This theatre command is responsible for all countries and oceans
from the US West Coast to India, which means that any operation or exercise
that needs to be undertaken in this region will be the sole responsibility of
the US Pacific Command.
These theatre commands operate kilometres away from their
homeland, so it’s mandatory to have all their resources built in to undertake
operations independently.
Each theatre, thus, is separated from the other functionally. The
integral resources include army, navy, air force, satellite backup, logistic
backup, missiles and counter missiles, cyber cell etc.
India is planning to have three integral theatre command one each
facing Pakistan and China, and one for the southern peninsula.
Afraid
of Rafale, China sent J-16 to the border with India
According
to China Television (CCTV), combat aircraft units, under the command of the
Chinese Air Force, in the Western theatre (area bordering India), have begun J-16
multirole fighters to enter into service.
The
increase of J-16 fighters is said to be to counterbalance the Rafale fighters
that India has just received from France. The multirole fighter J16 developed
by China will become the main Chinese fighter model that can be used to deter
the enemy.
Although
considered as a copy of the Sukhoi-30Mk2 when there are many similarities from
shape to tactical characteristics, the PLA Airforce confidently asserts that
its multirole fighter possesses many more outstanding features than the Sukhoi-30MK2.
MBDA’s
Air Defence Missile CAMM-ER Successfully Completes Major Milestone
MBDA
has successfully completed a firing of the “CAMM-ER” air defence missile
against a manoeuvring target.
The
trial took place at an Italian firing range. “CAMM-ER” is the extended range
member of the new generation CAMM air defence family of systems.
All
members of the CAMM family share the same cutting edge active radar seeker and
soft launch system, with CAMM-ER featuring a larger rocket motor to provide
extended range beyond 40 kilometers.
“CAMM
E Are” was designed to replace the Aspide munition in the Medium Advanced Air
Defence System of the Italian Air Force & air defence system of the Italian
Army & it will also enhance the defence capabilities of naval fleets.
