China Jet Exercise, US Enduring Shield, Warfighter Spike UGV, Aerial Datalink

AROUND TWO DOZEN CHINESE FIGHTER JETS CARRIED OUT EXERCISE OPPOSITE EASTERN LADAKH, INDIA WATCHED CLOSELY

With India and China engaged in a military standoff for more than a year now, the Chinese Air Force recently carried out a big aerial exercise from its airbases opposite Eastern Ladakh which was watched closely by the Indian side.

Around 21-22 of Chinese fighter aircraft mainly including the J-11 which are the Chinese copy of the Sukhoi-27 fighters and a few J16 fighters held an exercise opposite the Indian territory in Eastern Ladakh.

The Chinese fighter aircraft activities took place from its bases including the Hotan, Gar Gunsa and Kashgar airfields which have been upgraded recently to enable operations by all types of fighters along with concrete structures to hide away the presence of the number of fighters present at its different airbases.

Chinese aircraft remained well within their territory during the aerial drills.

Indian Air Force has also been regularly deploying detachments of its fighters including the MiG-29 jets in Ladakh.

The Indian Air Force also regularly flies its most capable Rafale fighters over the Ladakh skies which have boosted the Indian capability all along the Line of Actual Control.

INTEROPERABILITY BETWEEN P8I AND MH-60R AND SEA GUARDIAN

Even as the Indian Navy is expecting the approval for High Altitude Long Endurance Drones from the US based General Atomics, six more P-8I Patrol aircraft from Boeing Company are expected later this year.

The Indian Navy is already using the P-8I for the carrying out anti-submarine warfare and surveillance.

Once the Sea Guardians join the Navy, they will fly in sync with the P-8i, the MH-60R helicopters. This will further improve their capabilities, as this will take the interoperability between the three assets to the next level.

As and when the land launched P-8Is fly in to participate within the Fleet Task Force operations, a tactical data-link connection is established with the P-8I maritime aircrafts and this makes these aircraft a part of the net-units which is now controlled by the Flagship.

With this, now the MH-60R and P-8Is can share the Common Operating Picture in real time manner so as to plan and execute missions with a shared objective, in close coordination with the warships of the Task Force.

Thus, the Fleet Commander now has a better tactical picture to improve the effectiveness of the resources at his disposal at sea.

NEW COMPETITOR TO ISRAELI IRON DOME SYSTEM?

A mobile ground-based weapon system designed to acquire, track, engage and defeat unmanned aircraft systems, cruise missiles, and rockets, artillery and mortars has been unveiled by Dynetics (located at Huntsville, Alabama, United States.

Offering protection against similar threats as the ‘Iron Dome,’ the ‘Enduring Shield’ system should prove a direct competitor to the famed Israel-developed system which has also been purchased by the U.S. Army.

Enduring Shield is capable of firing a range of missiles while providing current and future growth capabilities.

The system offers a 360-degree envelope with the ability to engage multiple targets simultaneously. It can be fully integrated with the Army’s Integrated Air and Missile Defence Battle Command System, and offers both cyber resiliency and electronic warfare protections.

AUSTRALIA'S CYBORG DYNAMICS UNVEILS NEW ATGM-EQUIPPED WARFIGHTER UGV

Australian firm Cyborg Dynamics has unveiled a new anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) equipped concept demonstrator of its tracked Warfighter unmanned ground vehicle, tentatively called the Warfighter Spike UGV.

The unmanned ground vehicle is designed to carry a wide range of mission systems and payloads to address specific operational requirements.

The unmanned ground vehicle can support a payload weight of up to 330 kg and is equipped with a hybrid-electric drive system that enables it to operate for periods of up to 72 hours, although its endurance can be extended by fitting additional fuel tanks.

The baseline vehicle is fitted with the EOS Defence R-150 lightweight stabilised remote weapon station, which can accommodate a 5.56 mm/7.62mm light machine gun or 12.7mm heavy machine gun.

The new ATGM features a two-cell missile launcher carrying Rafael Advanced Defense Systems’ Spike LR2 ATGM, which are guided by an uncooled InfraRed seeker and a high-definition LED day sensor – with communication supported by a fibre-optic bi-directional datalink with the launch control unit – out to ranges of 5.5 kilometer.
