Israel Offers Harpy Drone, Russia develops Single Engine Stealth Jet, China Super Missile for LAC

Israel Offers Mini Harpy, Loitering Munition to Countries in the Asia Pacific Region Such as India

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is offering its Mini Harpy, loitering munition to countries in the Asia Pacific region.

The Mini Harpy combines the capabilities of the company’s two flagship loitering missiles, the Harop and the Harpy, offering detection of broadcast radiation with electro optical capabilities. The Mini Harpy covers a broad area of interest and responds to a broad range of threats and launching scenarios :

Neutralizing of radiation emitting threats such as radars and additional systems

Electro Optical Threat detection: high quality video footage for the operator

Launching from a broad range of mobile land platforms as well as marine platforms

Multiple tools per area unit

The Mini Harpy is a tactical system designed for field or marine units. It can be launched from land, marine and helicopter borne platforms, providing complete independence in intelligence collection for an updated situational picture and closing the attack circle at low cost.

The loitering missiles are launched towards the target area. They loiter the sky until the threat is detected. Upon detection, the systems locks in on the threat and attacks it for a quick, lethal closure.

The system was designed to provide operators with control up to the last moment.

This system is electrically powered, it is extremely quiet, operates in mission range of 100 kilometers for duration of two hours and is 45 kilogram in weight.

Russian new Stealth fighter among contemporaries like Tejas Mk2 and Gripen-E

The Sukhoi aircraft design bureau has started work on the design and development of Single engined stealth fighter with a Maximum take of weight of 18 tons that could put it little over India’s 17.5 tons Tejas Mk2 and 16.5 tons of the Saab’s Gripen-E creating the first stealth fighter jet in 20 tons fighter jet category that is often called as Medium weight.

Sukhoi plans to use one Izdeliye 30 engine that is developed for the Sukhoi 57 program that means it will have a thrust class of around 180 kiloNewton.

Tejas Mk2 and Gripen E both are powered by General electric’s  F-414 variants that generate 98 kiloNewton of thrust, which until now was the best in its class. Izdeliye 30 engine will also come with thrust vector control nozzles, which also makes it first in class.

Some of the leaked designs of the alleged Single engine Stealth program belonging to Sukhoi shows that it will have a Smaller Internal weapons bay and generally most of its heavier payloads will be required to be equipped on its external pylons, thus compromising on its stealth aspects when not on stealthy missions.

Unlike F-35 that has an Maximum take of weight 31 tons and a bigger internal weapons bay that can carry a minimum of 4 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile, it’s not clear if Sukhoi’s 18 tons Stealth aircraft will have the same space luxury to carry 4 R-77 Beyond Visual Range.

On the other hand Gripen-E will be using its superior electronic masking technology to reduce its radar signature and Tejas Mk2 will use improved composite panels to reduce its frontal radar cross section.

Sukhoi seems to be targeting those customers who will be retiring their Mig-29 and F-16s in the next few years, since even for India and China, Sukhoi-57 was branded as expensive and thus their was a market for cheaper single engined stealth aircraft.

PLA Xinjiang Military Command gets new anti aircraft missile & rocket artillery

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Xinjiang Military Command recently received delivery of China’s latest field air defense missile system and 122 millimeter caliber multiple rocket launcher system, with many soldiers seen equipped with night vision goggles.

The anti-aircraft missile and rocket artillery are the fifth and sixth new sets of equipment that entered service with the PLA Xinjiang Military Command plateau forces in May, marking a busy month of weapons commissioning for border defense troops in western China.

A regiment affiliated with the PLA Xinjiang Military Command and deployed in a snowy plateau region at an elevation of more than 4,500 meters received the delivery of a new type of anti aircraft missile and a new type of rocket artillery.

The missile system and the rocket artillery have been identified as the HQ 17A field air defense missile system and the PHL-11 122mm caliber self-propelled multiple rocket launcher system.
