Explosion forced Indian Navy to return nuclear submarine to Russia?
Russian state news agency TASS reported the early return of the INS Chakra was necessitated due to an explosion on board the vessel in the spring of 2020, which damaged both its hulls.
The Chakra, like many other Russian-designed submarines of
its era, is a ‘double-hulled’ submarine, with a pressure inner hull and a
lighter outer hull to allow for more buoyancy and capacity to absorb damage in
the event of being hit by a torpedo or mine.
The explosion of a high-pressure air cylinder on the Chakra
submarine occurred in the spring of 2020.
The report claimed the high-pressure air cylinder was located
between the two hulls. In addition to damage to the hulls, the explosion also
damaged “electronic weapons and hydro-acoustic equipment”.
After the emergency, Indian technical specialists completed
the repair of both hulls of the submarine, following which it was sent to
Russia.
The 'early' return of the INS Chakra had triggered a buzz as
she was the only nuclear-powered attack submarine in the Indian Navy.
The INS Chakra was also used to train personnel who would
work on the indigenously built nuclear submarines of the Indian Navy.
Air Force Special Boeing lands at Kushinagar Airport for
trial
With the Indian Air Force airplane, Special Boeing-737,
making a successful landing at the Kushinagar International Airport on Monday,
the Kushinagar International Airport is likely to become operational soon.
After staying at the airport for some time, the Special
Boeing took off. The landing of the plane is being seen as a trial of the
airport after completion.
This plane is used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for
domestic flight and it is a routine process to check the airports and give
feedback to the Prime Minister’s office. The feedback of the pilot about the
runway and apron of the airport was very good as he found it perfect for
flights.
Sweden Again Pitches Its SAAB Gripen Fighter Jets To The
Indian Air Force Under ‘Make In India’ Initiative
In a bid to make a strong pitch to sell its Gripen fighter
aircraft to Indian Air Force, Swedish Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist said
that the deal is 100 percent supported by the Swedish government.
The ongoing multirole fighter aircraft procurement where the
Gripen fighter concept offered by SAAB is a good example of transfer of
technologies and is supported 100 percent by the Swedish government.
Swedish major SAAB, a global defence and security giant, has
been eyeing the Indian market for its Gripen fighter jets for a long time. It
has been pushing hard on multiple occasions in the recent past that it is
completely aligned with the ‘Make in India’ policy of the Indian government.
Saab has also promised to build a production line in India to
meet all requirements of the Indian Air Force.
Iraq refutes Pakistan bid to buy grounded F-16 fleet, US
refuses to clear C7 AMRAAM Missiles
Iraqi Air force’s F-16 fleet is facing serious issues after
Lockheed Martin started pulling out of some of its contractors from the country
due to repeated attacks on the airbase where they are usually stationed,
Previous withdrawal of contractors has affected half the fleet, leading to poor
maintenance that effected half the fleet and some being grounded for a while
now.
With the withdrawal of more contractors leaving Iraq in the
coming weeks, it’s a matter of few weeks before the Iraqi F-16 fleet could have
ground the whole fleet.
Sensing an opportunity to get their hands on newer airframes
with little flying hours, Pakistani air force (PAF) officials approached the
Iraqi defense ministry officials and proposed to swap 12 F-16 for the sale of
up to 24 Chinese made JF-17 fighter jet along with assurance to provide F-16
technicians and contractors from Pakistan in help maintaining other remaining
jets, but the proposal reportedly was rejected by the Iraqi defense ministry.
F-16s fleet in Pakistani airforce continues to be top
tier aircraft in the fighter jet hierarchy, even after induction of JF-17 in
large numbers. To counter the recent Induction of Meteor next generation,
Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile system by IAF, PAF is also requesting
the United States administration for sale of the latest and longer variant of
AMRAAM called C7 to counter recent IAF moves to supplement 500 C5 variants that
were sold nearly 15 years ago are now been outranged by recent induction by IAF
but US refused Pakistan’s request.
