Tata Defence confirms WhAP cleared Army Trials, Orders Soon
DRDO Tata Defence developed Wheeled Armoured Amphibious Platform (WhAP) that was inducted for user trials has completed most of the Army specified trials, claimed Tata Defence. The Indian Army is currently looking for an armoured vehicle to be used in high altitude areas like Eastern Ladakh is currently considering Tata Wheeled Armoured Protection (WhAP) vehicle.
The army had requested some
changes after putting Army owned WhAP through extensive trials in extreme
conditions and high-altitude regions after which these changes were
demonstrated. Soon Army will clear the proposal to place orders for WhAP in the
coming months.
WhAP is an indigenous
Armoured vehicle that can carry around 10 to 12 personnel and be used as a
reconnaissance vehicle, infantry carrier, or logistics carrier. WhAP gets
Amphibious Drive Mode as well as an independent suspension with hydro pneumatic
struts that makes it the right vehicle for quick movement of troops.

ADA to seek more funds for
Tejas Mk-II Program
With the assembly of the
first Tejas Mk2 to begin later in April this year, Aeronautical Development
Agency will be asking Defence Ministry for more funds as the amount sanctioned
2431.55 crores in 2009 won’t be enough to build 3rd and 4th pre production Tejas
Mk2 that will be required to carry out developmental trials of the program
before it enters production in 2028-29.
ADA plans to build 4 pre-production
Tejas Mk2 that will be used extensively for the flight and developmental trials
for the program and with previous funds allocated it can manufacture the first
two Pre-production Tejas Mk2 and could require fresh funds for the development
of the last two, that will be near production models, that will be equipped
with all components and systems that IAF had sought from the project.
The rollout of the first
Tejas Mk2 is planned later this year in December and the first flight is
planned within one year of its rollout. The second aircraft will be ready in
2024 followed by Two more aircraft in 2025 and 2026. Since the last two
aircraft will be in FOC configuration and critical to the Tejas Mk-II program,
ADA wants MoD to sanction the funds at the earliest.
India’s Indigenous TEDBF
will have better payload capability then Mig-29K / Rafale-M
India’s First ever
indigenous Twin engine Naval fighter ORCA to have Semi stealth design, Catapult
compatibility, better payload capability than Mig 29K / Rafale-M.
TEDBF has new improved
frontal section that seems to have got some Radar cross section reduction. A
Wider cockpit layout suggests that TEDBF will be getting a characteristic nose up
attitude on the ground with a nose gear that can mount catapult hook for
Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) that could be operational in the
future aircraft carriers of India.
The maximum takeoff weight
of TEDBF will be around 26 tons. Previously it was said it could be around 24
tons but a larger wing section might have added some additional weight that in
turn will allow higher fuel carrying capacity too.
The entire structure of
TEDBF is to be given full anti-corrosion treatment to have the best protection
available for the jet that could also contribute to its weight rise. The wing
folding mechanism on each wing will add 140-150 kilograms each.
New revelations of 26 maximum
takeoff weight tons, could also mean that it will have an Empty weight that is
more than that of MiG-29K and Rafale-M, which have 11 tons and 10.5 tons
respectively to around 12 tons empty weight that for TEDBF.
