US offers India discount on Guardian drones, proposes to set
up maintenance facility too
The US has offered India a discount in the proposed $3
billion deal for 20 Sky Guardian and 10 Sea Guardian drones, while also
offering to set up a maintenance and repair (MRO) centre that will cater to all
such American systems in the region.
While it was not immediately known how much discount has been
offered, sources in the defence and security establishment said discussions are
on. They said that once the defence ministry clears the first tri-service
procurement project, further cost discussions will take place.
In March this year, while the deal had been hanging in the
balance for a while, the three Services have finally agreed on procuring the
system.
Feeling Tejas Heat, China offers discounts on JF-17 jet to
Malaysia
HAL has offered Tejas Mk1A fighter at a vanilla price of just
$41.5 million per unit and Tejas Mk1 Trainer at a vanilla price of just $37.6
million per unit.
Since Malaysian Airforce wants eight of these platforms to be
primarily configured for lead-in-fighter training, while the remaining 10 would
be a single seater for which it is expected to pay $900 million for 18 fighters
at an average cost of less than $50 million per fighter.
Possibly feeling Price heat from LCA Tejas, Chinese have
offered JF-17 at a 30% discount that possibly could mean China is somewhat agreed
to offer the jet at a loss since Single JF-17 Block III per unit cost is around
$55.6 million per unit with 30% discount factored in it could come down to $38.92
million per unit, exactly behind Tejas Mk1A single-seater on offer to Royal Malaysian
Airforce.
Tejas LIFT to be offered to Egypt
HAL team will be soon in Egypt after the conclusion of the
Dubai Air show 2021 to have talks with the Egyptian Air Force officials for the
possible sale of LCA Tejas aircraft to Egypt. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Chief
R Madhavan has said that Idea is to manufacture Tejas by setting up a factory
for them over there. Madhavan hints at talks could be over large orders that
the Egyptian Air Force might be considering.
Egyptian Air Force plans to retire its Chinese made 100 K-8E
trainer aircraft for which it is looking for a replacement in larger numbers.
HAL already has received orders for 18 Tejas Trainer aircraft
from Indian Air Force and the first two Trainer aircraft are already under
production. HAL has plans to develop a lead-in fighter training LIFT variant
based on the Tejas Trainer airframe that will be stripped of high end sensors
and avionics but will include training specific cockpit equipment including
Wide Area Display to be used as Advance Jet Trainer for new pilots before
moving to Squadrons.
IAF heavy lift exercise puts spotlight on logistics at India China
border
Amid tension on the border with China, the Indian military
has strengthened the logistics supply in the northern sector and augmented
winter stocking in the operational areas on the Line of Actual Control.
Multiple rounds of military and diplomatic negotiations have
failed to bring down the high voltage tension on the Indo China border. It will
be the second consecutive winter of massive military deployment of tens of
thousands of troops on the icy heights.
In light of this, a joint airlift exercise, ‘Operation
Hercules’, was undertaken by the Indian Air Force and Indian Army on Monday.
The platforms utilised for the airlift were C-17, IL-76 and AN-32 aircraft,
which took off from one of the forward bases of the Western Air Command.
The effort was a real time demonstration of the inherent
heavy lift capability of the Indian Air Force, which has played a major role in
ensuring the ability to quickly respond to any contingency in the past.
DRDO displays 25 drone swarm in offensive role
DRDO on Wednesday showcased an indigenous capability in
Jhansi to carry out offensive missions in enemy territory with scores of drones
working in assorted formations to identify, encircle and strike targets, with
the loitering munitions being developed to meet a key military requirement and
keep soldiers out of harm’s way.
Surveillance and armed drone swarm figure on a new list of
Make-In-India projects that the army plans to pursue in partnership with the
industry. Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane released the list last week
while rooting for self-reliance in the defence sector and stressing that
indigenous technology was key to victory in vars.
The Indian Air Force is also fully backing the indigenous
development of swarm drone technologies. DRDO demonstrated a fully operational
decentralised swarm of 25 drones flying with minimal human intervention. The
capability demonstration came on the opening day of a three-day defence
function in Jhansi linked to the ongoing country wide celebrations to mark the
75th year of independence.
HAL offers to replace 50 components in LCA Tejas for
Argentinean order
HAL has offered to replace major components like British supplied
Cobham Inflight refuelling Probe, quartz nose cone, and Martin Baker Ejection
seats with other alternatives. In total 50 small and big components will be
replaced if Argentina selects LCA-Tejas Mk1A that has been offered to them and
also HAL assured that jets will be supplied after due certifications of new
equipment and components replaced within the agreed timeframe between two
parties at the time of contract.
Madhavan added that the official pricing of the jet will be shared with Argentina by end of this month after considering the cost of re-equipment of 50 components and the supply of alternative systems and components from other suppliers.
