Nigeria might approach India for Gunships after US Sanctions on Russia
The Nigerian Army is considering procuring Hindustan Aeronautics Limited manufactured Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) to equip the newly formed Army Aviation Corps as per the information that has been floated by the Nigerian defense community.
Nigerian Army Aviation Corps is a new standalone
counter terrorism air unit that will be tasked specifically with providing
aerial support to ground forces fighting the Boko Haram insurgency in the north
and northeast of the country and guaranteeing long term national security.
Nigerian Army Aviation Corps initially were
interested in procuring Mi-35M attack helicopters from Russia that is already
in service with the Nigerian Air Force but due to the United States’ new
Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) law, that
places sanctions on the Russian defense industry, as well as customers of
Russian defense firms are now searching for other options that include HAL’s
LCH that was first offered to Nigerian airforce officials “who were in India-for
Aero India 2019.
Ex Pakistani AirForce Fighter Jet Sabre goes on
display at Indian Airforce Museum
Ex Pakistani Air Force Canadair CL-13B Sabre Mk6
that was one of the four Sabre Fighter jet that was left behind at Tejgaon,
Dhaka after the 1971 war with India, which later went on to serve in the newly
formed Bangladeshi Air Force till 1974 has been put up for display at Indian
Air Force Museum in Palam.
Sabre jet was gifted by the Bangladesh Air
Force while celebrating Swarnim Vijay Divas to mark 50 years of India’s victory
over Pakistan and the birth of Bangladesh. Sabre jet was refurbished and
repainted in India before it was displayed at the Indian Air Force Museum in
Palam as War trophy.
Britain and Japan to Jointly Develop Engines
for F-3 Sixth Generation Fighter
Japan is one of several countries confirmed to
be developing a sixth generation fighter aircraft, alongside leading contenders
in the field including China, United States and Russia.
Despite initial expectations that the aircraft
would depend heavily on foreign technologies from either Britain or the United
States, it was confirmed in 2020 that Japan would develop the fighter
independently and seek to minimise reliance on other countries.
However Both of Japan’s previous combat jet
programs, including the F-1 attack jet and F-2 lightweight fighter, were based
heavily on foreign aircraft designs - namely the European Jaguar and the
American F-16
To develop engines for the sixth generation
fighter,
Japan’s IHI Corporation will reportedly partner with Britain’s Rolls-Royce,
with the final design developed potentially also influencing Britain’s own
sixth generation fighter program the Tempest.
Britain’s Rolls Royce is currently involved in
the Tempest program as well. Japan has notably flown a testbed for next
generation fighter technologies, the Shinshin X-2.
South Korea Tests First Submarine Launched
Ballistic Missile: A Strategic Deterrent Without Nuclear Weapons?
South Korean media outlets have reported that
the country has carried out its first ever test firing of a submarine-launched
ballistic missile, which is a modified Hyunmoo-2B missile known as Hyunmoo 4-4.
The missiles are expected to be deployed from
the country’s Dosan Ahn Changho Class submarines, which are currently still
“completing evaluation of the torpedo decoy launch system” before entering
device later in the year.
The submarines are among the most advanced in
the world, and will be the first outside Japan to use a lithium-ion battery-based
air independent propulsion system.
Such systems provide greater endurance at high
speeds, and allow submarines to charge faster while also extending battery life,
they are also less bulky and require less maintenance. At 3,000 tons weight,
they will be South Korea’s largest submarines.
Pakistan eyes drones & deeper ties with
Turkey, concerns in Delhi of possible triad with China
Pakistan is seeking armed drones from Turkey
and is looking to deepen the already strong bilateral cooperation, especially
in the defence arena.
The growing ties, along with a possible axis
with China from where Pakistani Airforce also acquired Wing Loong Drones, are
beginning to cause concern among security experts in Delhi.
Sources in the Indian defence and security
establishment said possible procurement of armed drones, especially the
Bayraktar-TB2 are some of the issues that are under discussion.
The Bayraktaar TB2 drones, as demonstrated in
the recent battle, can deceive modern air defense systems, The Bayrakataar-TB2
is a Turkish medium altitude long endurance unmanned combat aerial vehicle
capable of remotely controlled or autonomous flight operations which could
prove to be a huge security threat for India seeing recent jammu drone attack.
