MADEX 2021: DSME Sheds Light On Submarine Offer To India For P-75I
The DSME 3000 has a
length of 83.5 meters, a beam of 9.7 meters, a draft of 14.7 meters, and a
maximum submerged speed of 20 knots per hour. It is based on the Dosan Ahn
Changho class of the Republic of Korea Navy which is being jointly produced by
DSME and Hyundai Heavy Industries as part of the KSS III program.
It is the largest
submarines ever operated by the Republic of Korea Navy. It is armed with six
533 millimeter torpedo tubes and six vertical launch system cells. It also has
better living quarters and amenities for seamen compared to other Korea Navy
submarines. DSME produced the first two ships of the KSS III Batch 1 which were
launched in 2018 and 2020 respectively, while construction on the third ship is
ongoing.
A total of nine vessels
are planned: Three in a “Batch 2” configuration and three more in a “Batch 3”.
The local content and capabilities are improved in each batch. For example, KSS
III Batch 2 submarines will feature Lithium Ion batteries.
What is the reason that
Rafale replacing the Sukhoi-30MKI in the Indian Air Force ?
The Indian Air Force has
officially put into service the Dassault Rafale multi role fighter aircraft
that ordered from France, Rafale determined to play a key role to replace the
Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter line.
The Indian Air Force has
identified the French made 4.5 generation fighter as the spearhead of the
combat force, which will hold the most important areas of the country to be
ready to confront the enemy. The strongest player is China against India.
The IAF’s belief in the
Rafale instead of the Sukhoi-30 MKI is surprising, because before that the
Russian origin fighter was still considered the symbol of the Indian air force.
The fact that the Sukhoi-30
MKI lost its position in the hands of Rafale comes from its lack of reliability
when in recent times there have been quite a few aircraft that have crashed
during training, not to mention the number of “grounded” to technical maintenance.
Not only that, but the
Sukhoi-30 MKI also pointed out a number of other disadvantages such as a large
radar reflection area, relatively heavy, which takes a lot of time to prepare,
especially India is concerned about China. China has a good understanding of
Russian weapons and it will be easy to find a way to counter Russian origin
planes of India.
The fact has also proved
that in the confrontation with the Pakistani Air Force in early 2019, the Sukhoi-30
MKI fighters did not show any advantage over the JF-17, leading to an urgent
need for a change.

or Will go for Indian Tejas : Argentina to China
Following the retirement
of its latest Dassault Mirage III in 2015, the Argentine Air Force is out of
supersonic fighter jets in its fleet and has been using subsonic A4 attack
aircraft while negotiating the purchase of intercept aircraft.
After negotiations with
Korean Aerospace Industries failed to offer the FA-50, Argentina has received
offers from Russia, which includes the MiG-35, and from China.
Like the MiG, the JF-17
uses an engine of Russian origin, the RD-39, a variant developed from the RD-33
used by the MiG-35. The Chinese fighter, however, is lighter and less capable
of carrying weapons.
However, Argentina is
exercising immense pressure on China to drop JF-17 price or else it says it
would have no other option but to go in for the Indian made indigenous TEJAS
jet.
If this happens, India
will definitely kill two birds with one stone.
American Patriot &
THAAD Missile Defence Systems Struggle to Pass New Tests
July report from the US
Government Accountability Office has indicated that efforts to develop reliable
long range air defences have continued to struggle, with two out of three
flight tests aiming to integrate the Patriot and Terminal High Altitude Area
Defense (THAAD) missile systems failing. The issues were attributed to software
problems.
Patriot and THAAD have
complementary roles, with the former designed to shoot down short and medium range
ballistic missiles in their terminal stage at low altitudes, while the THAAD
system is optimised for shooting down upper medium range and intermediate range
missiles at the end of their midcourse and terminal flight stages - at higher
altitudes than the Patriot can.
The Patriot is a much
cheaper, more widely used and more versatile system which is also capable of
neutralising aircraft, although its performance has been brought to serious
question due to major combat failures in US, Saudi and Israeli hands against a
range of targets.
Nirbhay: India Issues
NOTAM for likely trial of sub sonic cruise missile
India has issued a
Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for a launch of an experimental flight vehicle in the
Bay of Bengal for the period from 23-25 August 2021. If indeed, DRDO plans to
test Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile, it will be fitted with the indigenous 450
kgf thrust class Small Turbo Fan Engine (STFE).
DRDO in 2020 had carried out fresh trials for
the first time with the STFE engine but decided to abort the trial a few
minutes later due to problems in the booster stage.
Nirbhay long range sub sonic
cruise missile is capable of deep penetration into adversary territory to
strike high value targets with precision, the missile, which travels at a speed
of 0.7 Mach, has both terrain hugging and sea skimming capability that helps it
avoid detection and counter measures.
