Rafale CKD Facility In India, HAPS Prototype 1st Flight This Year, New MRSAM-ER NOTAM

After MRO, Dassault plans CKD Rafale from its DRAL Plant in India

The French company Dassault will complete setting up its Rafale fighter aircraft servicing center at its upcoming facility at the Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited at the Mihan SEZ in Nagpur by end of 2022 or early 2023. New Facility will cater to Indian Air Force and also to the South Asian customers in near future but the grounds are being prepared that could lead to the assembly of Rafale jets in India to meet export demands as the backlog of orders pile up after recent orders from UAE and Indonesia.

Reliance Infrastructure is the majority shareholder in 51:49 ratio Joint Venture in Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited but Dassault is planning to seek 100 percent ownership of Facility before it can start plans to assemble Rafale jets in India. Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited will be able to assemble two Rafale jets per month and 24 in a year that will match the present production capability in France. Most of the jets will come in the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) forms only to be assembled in India.

Dassault is already sourcing Rafale engine doors and pylons from India as part of its global supply chain for its Global Customers and more components will also be manufactured in India. Dassault already has offered to assemble the second batch of Rafale if ordered by India in the facility and also is ready to cater to MRFA Tender requirement for 114 jets which involve deeper Transfer of Technology come into play with more sourcing being done locally.

While Assembly of Rafale in India is still at the consideration stage, French company Dassault off late has been sealing multiple deals for the supply of Rafale jets with many countries, and the Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited facility in India will play a crucial role as part of its global supply chain and later also in the upgradation and service of these jets.

HAL’s Scale High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) Prototype will fly this year

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Bengaluru based technology startup NewSpace Research and Technologies have completed the feasibility study and the first sub scale prototype will fly by Q3 of 2022 as per the latest report. HAL has asked for 50 crores for the development of the sub scale prototype that will validate the technologies and design before work on the 500 kilograms High altitude pseudo satellite (Haps) will begin soon after and will be ready for developmental trials in the next 4 years.

HAPS will have an endurance of three months and can cruise at 65,000 feet. Customized payload development is already taking place. India’s National Aerospace Laboratories is also developing its own for Civilian usage that has an endurance of six months.

India issues fresh NOTAM for New Missile

India has issued a third Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), for this year for a launch of an experimental flight vehicle in the Bay of Bengal this month for the period from 26 to 27 February 2022. The designated area is 170 kilometers in length and 95 kilometers in width, which indicates it might be a test of either long range air to air missiles or an upgraded version of the ground based air defense missile.

DRDO designed Astra Mk2 beyond visual range air to air missile with a range of 160 kilometers is waiting for its first developmental trials after completion of captive and separation trials onboard Sukhoi-30MKI aircraft that have been modified for the program. DRDO is also working on an Indian Medium Range Surface To Air, Extended Range (MRSAM-ER) variant that will have a range of 150 kilometers which is also almost ready to begin its developmental trials.
