DRDO & IAF jointly flight test Long Range Bomb successfully
DRDO and Indian Air Force team jointly flight tested indigenously developed Long Range Bomb successfully from an aerial platform on October 29, 2021.
The Long Range Bomb, after release from the IAF fighter aircraft, guided to a land based target at a long range with accuracy within specified limits. All the mission objectives were successfully met. The flight of the bomb and the performance was monitored by a number of range sensors including Electro Optical Tracking System, Telemetry and radar deployed by the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha.
The Long Range Bomb has been designed and developed by Research Centre Imarat, a DRDO laboratory located at Hyderabad in coordination with other DRDO laboratories.
Raksha Mantri, Shri Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO, IAF and other teams associated with successful flight trial and stated that this will prove to be a force multiplier for the Indian Armed Forces.
Secretary DDR&D and Chairman DRDO, Dr G Satheesh Reddy in his message to the teams said that successful flight test of Long-Range Bomb has marked an important milestone in indigenous development of this class of systems.

India US Yudh Abhyas Exercise Ends On Snow Covered Alaska Peaks
Indian and US soldiers have completed the validation phase of Yudh Abhyas 21, joint military exercise in freezing temperatures on the snow covered peaks of Aalaska’s Chugach mountain range.
Held between October 25 and October 28, the exercise was divided into two parts, consisting of two teams each. The pairs of teams conducted their assaults for two days each. Too teams were led by Indian commanders and two by Americans. Two target sites – Geronimo and Site Summit were selected for the final assault, for which troops from all four teams were sequentially inserted by CH-47 Chinook helicopters and vehicles.
The aim was to validate cold weather skills acquired over the past ten days, to train soldiers in survival in Arctic conditions and practice conduct of small team operations in extreme cold weather conditions. Thousands of feet above sea level, on the top of the Chugach Mountains, in deep snow, high winds, and sub-freezing temperatures, the US Army and the Indian Army soldiers complete the culminating event of Yudh Abhyas exercise.
India tests smart anti airfield weapon for 10th time
DRDO on Thursday conducted a successful trial of the indigenously developed Smart Anti Airfield Weapon (SAAW) in the Pokhran Ranges. This could be the 10th time successful mission of SAAW conducted by DRDO till now.
SAAW belongs to the glide bomb category and its development began around 2012-13, with crucial inputs from the Indian Air Force and the first test was carried out in 2016. DRDO is also working on an Electro optical seeker variant of the SAAW that will ensure high accuracy of less than 3 metre.
SAAW is a 125 kilogram class smart weapon, capable of engaging ground enemies airfield, assets such as radars, bunkers, taxi tracks, and runways, up to a range of 100 kilometers. The high precision guided bomb is light weight compared to a weapon system of the same class.
Agni 1P can hit moving targets: Ex DRDO Chief
Former DRDO chief Avinash Chander has confirmed about Anti Ship Ballistic Missile capabilities of the newly tested two stage, solid fuelled, canisterised Agni 1P with a range capability between 1000km and 2000km.
Chander claimed Agni 1P can hit moving targets such as Aircraft carriers and can be called an “aircraft carrier killer” missile system. 4 Actuated fins on conical Re-entry vehicle was often seen as design features that will enable on demand manoeuvrability with high accuracy while it re-enters the atmosphere and it is now more or less confirmed that Agni 1P can manoeuver itself and hit a slow moving target like Aircraft carrier group that has enough warhead to cripple not only aircraft carrier but also other ships in the vicinity.
Agni 1P is a dual capable missile that can be used in nuclear or conventional strikes against ground and naval targets.
First Look at China’s New Carrier Based Fifth Generation Fighter: PLA Unveils Second New Stealth Jet in a Week
Just three days after the first images of a new twin seat variant of China’s J-20 heavyweight fifth generation fighter were leaked, the first images of a second new fifth generation fighter unknown designation emerged. The new aircraft appears to be based on the FC-31 prototype which first flew in in October 2012.
The new stealth fighter is not expected to replace the J-15, but rather to fly alongside it in a complementary role much as the US Navy’s F-35C stealth fighter will fly alongside its F-18E Block 3 Super Hornets. The new Chinese aircraft is one of just two fifth generation fighters developed for carrier operations to have flown, alongside the F-35.
The FC-31 derived stealth jet is not expected to be deployed from China's current carriers, but rather from future heavier models with electromagnetic catapult launch systems which will facilitate a much higher take-off weight. The air wings of these carriers are expected to be among the most diverse in the world, rivalled only by those of US Nevy supercarriers, and alongside the J-15 & J-15D.
