Indian Army has a requirement of 814 Mounted Gun System. RFI
states that 155mm/ 52 Calibre Mounted Gun System will be employed in plains,
mountains, high altitude areas, semi desert, and desert terrain along the
Northern and Western Borders of the country for the execution of Artillery
tasks. Indian Army has asked for an Inertial Navigation System based sight
system with the capability to orient and fixes the location of the Gun System.
The Fire Control System should also have the capability to
provide day and night, direct and indirect firing and Fire Control System should
be compatible with Project Shakti. Atags based Mounted Gun System will have a
mass of 34 to 35 tons (including Truck).
At this point in time, there is no clarity when DRDO plans to
build an Atags based on MOUNTED GUN SYSTEM for trials and demonstration
purposes. Army has asked for a minimum of 50% Indigenous Content 155mm / 52 Calibre
Mounted Gun System that received offers from 3 private sector companies in
collaboration with International vendor, while 52 calibers 155mm variant of the
Dhanush Howitzer Based MOUNTED GUN SYSTEM has been developed by the Jabalpur based
Gun Carriage Factory is the second Indigenous gun that is in the race and has
completed internal trials and has been offered to Army for user trials.
