Sniper Targeting Pod Offered, Army's Hypocrisy for LCH, GSLV Failure Reasons, Can India Afford Rocket Force?, Tejas MK1A 1st Flight

LCH: When will Tokenism end in Indian Military?

Indian Army has grown fond of ALH Rudra an armed variant of ALH Dhruv that can be used as a Dual-Purpose helicopter since it carries more passengers than just its Two Pilots. Army already has inducted 65 of the ALH Rudra and considers it a better option and better priced than LCH due to which it has creeped in hesitance towards the LCH Program.

Another rumoured factor has been that lack of Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) on the LCH Weapons program and slow pace of development of ATGM for the Helicopters by DRDO is one of the reasons are not ready to invest in the system.

Such cold responses from the Armed forces will not help the LCH program and also will dent its image to its prospective customers that might be interested in their procurement.

Lockheed planning to take on Rafael in targeting pod market in India?

Lockheed Martin plans to shift manufacturing of certain parts and subsystems of its Legion ES infrared search and track (IRST) sensor system and Sniper advanced targeting pod to Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Limited in Hyderabad, India for which the company is trying to secure permissions from the US congress to enable this deal to happen soon.

In India, French, Indian, and Russian combat jets that have one thing in common are the Israeli made Rafael Litening targeting pod that continues to be adopted on all the jets in air force inventory. IAF started of with Litening-3 and has progressed to Litening-4 and the Litening-4I that come equipped with upgraded infrared cameras and a charge coupled device color camera to help identify targets on the ground, particularly dense areas.

Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod is an electro optical targeting system housed in a single lightweight pod. It handles the most challenging precision targeting and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance air to air and air to ground missions in the land, sea, and air domains.

Can India afford a Rocket Force?

India’s Chief of Defense Staff, General Bipin Rawat said that India is “looking at creating a rocket force” as part of efforts to step up on enhancing its military capabilities. this announcement might have come as surprise to many but not many are talking about the cost involved in creating a force for a land based ballistic and cruise missile inventory. Indian Rocket force will require 50000 to 70000 personnel and 3-4 ballistic missile brigades with each brigade independently deployed in different sectors of the eastern and western regions.

Creating a Dedicated Rocket force will require 5 to 6 times more equipment and personals than what presently we have under Strategic Forces Command that till now was in charge of the present Land based ballistic missiles. More Equipment and personals also mean more funds are required to train and build inventory that often can be more tricky and time consuming.

HAL to deliver first Light Combat Aircraft Tejas Mk1A in March 2024

In a major boost to India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the state owned plane maker, HAL will deliver the first Light Combat Aircraft Tejas Mk1A in March 2024.

HAL got an order last year during the Aero India show. After that HAL started working on that. It is supposed to deliver the first one in T0+36, inclusive of design. The design activity is already going on and by next year middle HAL plans to fly first prototype of this configuration.

The aircraft will come with several enhancements from its previous variant. It will be equipped with AESA radar, external self-protection jammer pods, advanced beyond visual-range missiles and digital radar warning receivers missiles among others.

The order was placed amidst the depleting squadrons of the IAF. In a 2-front war scenario, Indian Air Force required 42 squadron to deal with the crisis. Currently, it stands around 32 with four to retire in next two years.

2021 GSLV mission failed due to loss of pressure in fuel tank: Isro

The GSLV-F10 launch in August failed due to a small loss in pressure in the cryogenic upper stage of the launch vehicle, according to Isro.

The reason for the GSLV F10 failure was a 50 millibar reduction in the LH2 tank pressure.

The launch of the earth observation satellite EOS-03 aboard the Geostationary Launch Vehicle (GSLV F10) failed on August 13 after the third stage of the rocket did not ignite due to a “technical anomaly.

In any cryogenic engine like the one in GSLV that uses liquid oxygen and hydrogen as a fuel, the pressure inside the fuel tank needs to be maintained for a smooth flow of the fuel to the engine, preventing the tank from collapsing. Helium is added to the cryogenic engine to maintain pressure.

The GSLV F10 was only the second mission of 2021, and since the failure, the space agency hasn’t undertaken any launches.
