L&T Hanwha Light Tank, Tejas EW Game Changer?, US X-59 Quiet Supersonic Jet

L&T ready to partner with Hanwha Defence on light tank offer to India

India’s Larsen & Toubro has said it is prepared to produce light tanks with South Korea’s Hanwa Defense for the Indian Army. L&T plans to partner with Hanwa Defense on manufacturing light tanks for the Indian Army. The two companies have already partnered to produce the K9 Vajra-T, self propelled howitzer, a variant of the K9 Thunder Tank, for the Indian Army.

However, Ministry of Defence has only released the request for information for the light tanks and not the tender. So, The joint production of light tanks is uncertain at this stage since the tender’s categorisation will decide what direction the programme will take. This categorisation will determine whether and to what degree a foreign vendor will be involved in manufacturing the light tanks.

South Korean company is willing to jointly produce the K21-105 light tank with L&T for the Indian Army. This arrangement would be similar to the programme to build the K9 Vajra-T Howitzers. Hanwa Defense will discuss with its Indian partner the level of technology as required under the Make in India policy.

US experimenting with Quiet Supersonic jet that can travel faster than speed of sound

The X-59 QueSST is an experimental aircraft that is being developed by Lockheed Martin for the American space agency NASA. The program’s objective is to examine the technology that could greatly decrease the sound and felt impact of sonic booms on planes traveling faster than the speed of sound.

The plane will take to the skies as part of a mission to gather data on silent supersonic flight and evaluate public reaction to supersonic “thumps.” The success of this concept could pave the way for commercial supersonic flights, which would substantially reduce the amount of time it takes to travel long distances.

It is a single engine plane with a length of 28.7 meters and a wingspan of 9 meters. The plane has an extended nose that reduces noise levels. The X-59 is driven by F414 GE-100 turbofan engines that were specifically designed to be used on the plane.

How Tejas Electronic Warfare Can Evolve To Be A Gamechanger

As the blessings of in house RND and Indigenous Manufacturing, Brand new variants of the LCA Tejas just keep on coming. After Tejas Mk1A, Tejas LIFT, Tejas Max, the newest member of the family seems to be Tejas EW. There’s something wonderful about this whole development which could prove to be a “Gamechanger” for the Indian Defence Industry. It can be that we’re a bit late in the era of Airborne EW. But what we will be doing with the Tejas EW, is that we will be pioneering a new category of EW Aircrafts – The Lightweight Category.

Aeronautical Development Establishment is planning to incorporate 3 Low Drag Gallium Nitrate Airborne Self Protection Jamming Pods on the Tejas along with the Gallium Arsenide UEWS Internal Suite, 3 of them working in tandem create a Combined Effective Isotropic Radiated Power of around 11.28 kilo Watts.

Further, Deep integration of the Uttam AESA Radar with the Tejas EW System will enable it to enact as a jammer on its own,  And, add another 7.4 kilo Watts of power.

Tejas Mk1A would be carrying Long Range Surface to Air Missiles,  2 Rudram-1 Anti Radiation Missiles with a range of 250 Kilometers planned to be carried by each Tejas EW would be the final icing on the cake.
