Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures-Limited indigenously produces F-16 fighter wing at Hyderabad facility
US Company Lockheed Martin Corporation has formally recognised Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures-Limited as a potential future coproducer of fighter wings. Tata Lockheed Martin Hyderabad facility indigenously produced the first fighter wing shipset.
KT Rama Rao, Minister for Industries and Commerce, Telangana,
along with other government officials, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and Global
Business Development executives and Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Tata
Lockheed Martin’s leadership attended a ceremonial event to mark the
production of first fighter wing prototype at the Tata Lockheed Martin’s
facility at Adibatla in Hyderabad.
Tata Lockheed Martin Facility build one of the most
technologically complex aerostructures interchangeable and replaceable fighter
wing.
Lockheed Martin and Tata entered into an agreement to develop
a F-16 fighter wing prototype in 2018. Through the project, Tata Lockheed
Martin demonstrated the capability to perform detailed part manufacturing and
delivery of a fully compliant representative fighter aircraft wing shipset.
This will further strengthen Lockheed Martin’s partnership
with India and support its F-21 offering for procurement of 114 new fighter
aircraft for India and the Indian Air Force by providing additional indigenous
production capability.

New Made-In-India VL-SRSAM Missile Successfully Tested To
Strengthen Navy
India on Tuesday successfully flight tested the indigenously
developed new Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM)
from the coast off Balasore. The quick reaction surface to air missile
developed by DRDO was test launched from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur
at about 3.08 pm from a vertical launcher against an electronic target at a
very low altitude.
The air defence system can engage targets at around 15km is
being developed by DRDO for naval warships. VL-SRSAM is capable of neutralising
various aerial threats at close ranges including sea skimming targets.
The next generation all weather air defence missile system
can provide point and area defence against various aerial targets like jets,
fighter aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles. The canister-based state of art
weapon system can identify, track, engage and destroy the target with high kill
probability. It has a strike range of about 40km.
IAF to start User Trials of Uttam Aesa Radar soon
Indian Air Force will start user trials cum evaluation of the
indigenously developed Uttam active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar
later this month which has been developed by the Electronics and Radar
Development Establishment.
Uttam has 95% indigenous content that can track 50 targets in
the sky at a range above 100km and engage four of them simultaneously. Once
cleared for production, Uttam Radar will be mounted on the 16th LCA Tejas Mk1A
aircraft and eventually on all 123 jets and derivatives of the radar will be
used on the entire Sukhoi 30MKI fleet as well as on the carrier based MiG-29K
fighter fleet.
Uttam Aesa Radar already has been installed on two Limited
series LCA Tejas aircraft and another one is installed on the Hawker Siddeley
800 Business executive jet on lease to the program and has completed 250 hours
of in-flight trials in all modes.
India’s Bio jet Fuel Technology Receives Military Recognition
India’s Ministry of Science and Technology announced that it
has awarded provisional clearance to a domestically developed technology which
produced bio-based jet fuel for use on military aircraft.
The fuel underwent inspection and evaluation testing, along
with trials over the last three years. The certification announced on the 29th
of November marks an acknowledgment of the satisfactory results obtained from
various ground and inflight testing.
This provisional clearance allows the Indian Air Force to use
bio-based jet fuel, produced using CSIR IIP’s technology across all operational
aircraft, thereby enabling commercialisation of the technology.
Defence Tri-Service exercise conducted in high reaches of
Kashmir valley
Chinar Corps conducted a helicopter borne training and
validation exercise in the higher reaches of Kashmir valley. This was a tri service
exercise undertaken in Kashmir with the Indian Air Force, Navy and Army.
The exercise was planned to validate the joint capability to
insert the task force tactically behind enemy lines in an intense air defence
and electronic warfare operating environment. The successful conduct of the
mission validated the true spirit of jointness achieved in planning,
utilisation of resources and accomplishment of laid down mission objectives as
a true reflection of the tri service ethos of the Indian Armed forces.
The helicopter dropped task force operated in the snow-clad
region at heights over 9000 feet. The heliborne task force included troops from
Infantry, The Special Forces and the MARCOS from Indian Navy. The heli drop
exercise included full transportation and armed helicopters from Indian Army
and Indian Air Force including the Apaches attack helicopters.
The exercise showcased the capability of the Chinar Corps and
the Indian Army to carry out successful operations in high altitude areas
incorporating all facets of contemporary and modern battlefield in synergy with
Indian Air Force and Indian Navy.
