Reliance owned Asteria bags orders for CYGNUS A10 Unmanned
Aerial Vehicle
The Bengaluru based startup, Asteria Aerospace Private Limited that is now 51.78% Reliance Industries has begged orders for Cygnus A10. Order quality is still undisclosed but it is in double digits, and orders were placed by the Indian Army. In April 2016, Asteria had begged orders from Border Security Force for its multi rotor drone A400.
Cygnus A10 has a range of up to 15km radio line of sight and
has a service ceiling of 3,000 meter above mean sea level. Cygnus A10 has an
endurance of up to 90 minutes on a single battery charge and weighs less than 4kg
with payload. Cygnus A10 airframe is constructed using hybrid composite
materials & metals.
Cygnus A10 is capable of performing fully autonomous take off,
navigation, and landing using an ATOM autopilot system developed by Asteria.
Cygnus A10 can be transported and stored in backpackable cases. The primary
payloads that have been incorporated into the drones include visual and thermal
cameras. They are capable of image enhancement, which is a useful feature while
flying at a 3km altitude in hazy or foggy conditions.
Cygnus A10 is capable of streaming high-definition video in
real time over a distance of up to 15km.

India and US hold DTTI group meeting, sign deal for air launched
UAVs
In a major boost for defence ties, India and the US have
signed a deal to jointly develop air launched unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)
as the two countries held the 11th Defence Technology and Trade Initiative
(DTTI) group meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting was held virtually and focused on strengthening
bilateral defence trade relations and creating opportunities to jointly develop
and produce defence equipment. In September 2020, the first project agreement
for air launched unmanned aerial vehicle under the joint working group air
systems was signed, which is a major accomplishment for the DTTI.
The defence ministry said that four joint working groups
attended the meeting, which focused on land, naval, air and aircraft carrier
technologies that were established under the DTTI to boost mutually agreed
projects.
Navy extends submarine rescue support in Indian Ocean Region
In a rare tour of the capabilities of the Deep Submergence
Rescue Vessel (DSRV), the Indian Navy on Tuesday offered delegates from foreign
navies a potential opportunity to formalise a pact for submarine rescue
support. Heads of maritime forces from 12 Indian Ocean nations, including
Bangladesh, Comoros, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar,
Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand were given a chance to witness
the capabilities of the DSRV at Mormugao Port Trust.
The Indian Navy has already proven the capability to carry
out a rescue operation using the DSRV for submarines operated by the Navy.
The purpose of this visit by
the foreign delegation is to show the other submarine operating nations who do
not have the rescue system.
The DSRV system consists of a Submarine Rescue Vessel, a
Remote Operations Vehicle, Side Scan Sonar and associated equipment. The system
can be rapidly mobilised by air or road to facilitate submarine rescue
operations even at distant locations.
