Tejas Mk2 to be part of Aero India 2023

With the completion of the critical design review and Rollout of the first aircraft now being planned by end of 2022 to be followed with the commencement of Low Speed and High-Speed Taxi Trials in 2023, the first Public appearance of the aircraft will come sooner then later as HAL plans to showcase the first aircraft at the Aero India 2023 for the first time to the General Public.

Tejas Mk2 will be part of the Static aircraft on display park display at the Aero India 2023, a biennial air show and aviation exhibition to be held in Bengaluru, India at the Yelahanka Air Force Station. Depending on the Low Speed and High-Speed Taxi Trials in the earlier part of 2023, HAL will decide if the first flight can be concluded before the end of 2023. HAL plans to complete developmental trials of the 17.5 tons Tejas aircraft by 2027 to 28 and enter into production the following year.

Tejas Mk2 is a Mirage-2000 Class fighter jet that HAL along with ADA of DRDO is developing for the Indian Air Force (IAF) that will be powered by a Single 98-kN thrust class GE supplied F-414 engine. IAF is looking to procure nearly 170 Tejas Mk2 to replace Mirage-2000, Mig-29, and Jaguar combat jet fleet from 2030 onwards starting with Jaguar fleet that retires by 2034.

Taiwan starts work on SSK, What’s your excuse Indian Navy?

Taiwan’s Navy recently hosted the keel laying ceremony for its Indigenous Defense Submarine to mark the completion of its first construction phase. Vessels in question are estimated to be in the 2,500 tons class and 70 metre in length.

On the other hand Indian Navy is all set to induct 4th Kalvari class submarine that has been license built locally in India and is still keen to press for another foreign submarine under Project 75I where again it seeks to procure 6 more next generation diesel electric submarines locally but continues to insist that local technology is not ready for development of fully indigenous diesel electric submarine yet.

Indian Navy has worked on two different classes of nuclear powered ballistic submarines programs and is actively involved in the development of the new class of nuclear attack submarines, this experience should have enough to develop an indigenous diesel electric submarine based on the Transfer of Technology that has taken place for the Kalavari Class submarines.

DRDO already has demonstrated its Fuel Cell based Air Independent Propulsion System but due to the non-availability of the submarine to install and to be demonstrated the technological developmental cycle remains uncompleted.

Rafale Jets Delivery To Be Completed By April 2022: French Envoy

Thirty Rafale fighter jets manufactured by French firm Dassault Aviation have been delivered to India so far and the remaining six will be handed over by April 2022 as part of an inter-governmental agreement signed five years ago.

In France, teams have been working extra shifts. They have been working nights and weekends sometimes to be able to fulfil the commitment. As of today, 29 jets have been ferried to India and 30 have been delivered to India. France Envoy said they are fully on time and are going to reach the target of having all 36 delivered by April of next year.

India and France have been cooperating for decades in the field of defence. Fighter jets are first handed over to the Indian Air Force in France and they are later flown to India. The first batch of five Rafale jets arrived in India on July 29 last year.

PM to Handover DRDO Designed Advanced Electronic Warfare Suit ‘Shakti’ for Indian Naval Ships

Advanced Electronic Warfare System ‘Shakti’ has been designed and developed by Defence Electronics Research Laboratory Hyderabad for Warships of the Indian Navy for the interception, detection, classification, identification and jamming of conventional and modern Radars. The Shakti EW system will provide an electronic layer of defence against modern radars and anti-ship missiles to ensure electronic dominance and survivability in the maritime battlefield. This system will replace the earlier generation EW Systems of the Indian Navy.

The system has been integrated with the wide band Electronic Support Measures and Electronic Counter Measure for the defence of Indian Navy Ships against missile attacks. The ESM of the system helps in finding accurate direction and interception of modern radars. The system has a built-in radar fingerprinting and data recording replay feature for post mission analysis.
